Kokolady & kokonator: Sanitary Pad Solutions

Millions of Indian women don’t get an opportunity to achieve their dreams due to inaccessibility to Women hygiene/healthcare solutions, Safety Solutions and Equal work opportunities.

We are aiming at delivering these basic infrastructure needs to women so that they should be able to stand equal in the society without any fear.

In order to achieve our aim, we have introduced a line of Sanitary Pad Solution products, under the name of “Koko Lady”, a Sanitary Vending Machine which is specially designed to make available – Hygienic Sanitary Pads – Anywhere, Anytime and “Kokonator” (Disposal Machine) which converts the used pad to ash – a smoke and odour controlled disposal mechanism for used sanitary pads in every school, university and workplace.

Inaccessibility of Sanitary Pads - Limited Empowerment of Women

Empowerment goes beyond raising women through education and awareness. More than the lack of awareness, lack of facilities hinders their confidence to venture out and pursue their dreams with freedom.

Only 18%

OF MENSTRUATING WOMEN HAVE ACCESS TO GOOD QUALITY AFFORDABLE SANITARY PADS IN INDIA.

About 62%

Among young women aged 15-24 years, 62% use cloth for 62% menstrual protection.

Availability Issues:

  • Costly & not easily available in many places
  • Still a taboo in rural India
  • Embarrassment in buying pads from shops

Availability Issues:

  • Cheap, non-hygienic options readily available
  • Over usage of pads
  • Irritation & infection due to cheaper products

Introducing Koko Lady

“Be it school, university, workplace or any public place, a woman should never miss an opportunity to be at her full potential due to lack of access to sanitary pads.”

With the above belief in mind, our company Electra Koko Tawa Weld Private Limited, introduces KOKO LADY, A high-end sanitary pad vending machine

Our Vision – Menstrual days will never be a hindrance for woman to step out and go about their business, studies, sports or any activity

KOKO-LADY is a smart sanitary pad disposal machine that is:

Disposal of Used Sanitary Pads is Another Major Issue

By making sanitary pads available for hygiene and women’s safety, only a part of the problem is solved. Another part of the problem still remains un-addressed… menstrual waste disposal.

Nearly 121 million women and adolescent girls in India use on average eight sanitary napkins per menstrual cycle. That translates to 1 million pads generated monthly, which then results into 12 billion pads produced and disposed of annually in India alone.

ONE SANITARY PAD COULD TAKE

500 TO 800 YEARS TO DECOMPOSE

AS THE PLASTIC USED IS NON-BIODEGRADABLE AND CAN LEAD TO HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS.

Current Scenario:

Pads thrown with routine waste

Pads thrown in open

Pads disposed via burial

Pads burnt openly

Another most pressing concern for menstrual hygiene is that women find it difficult to dispose of used sanitary pads in common area dustbins in schools and workplace etc. To avoid the trouble of disposing, they tend to use the Sanitary Pad for longer hours which causes serious hygiene related issues.

Kokonator: Environmentally Friendly Menstrual Waste Disposal Machine

According to the Central Pollution Control Board’s guideline on Management of Sanitary Waste, 2018, deep burial, composting, pit burning and incineration (low-cost, small-scale, electric and high temperature biomedical incinerators) are some of the methods that should be adopted to dispose Sanitary Pads.

Considering the environmental impact of sanitary pads, our company Electra Koko Tawa Weld Private Limited, designed
Electric Disposal Machine-KOKONATOR according to the
guidelines of Central Pollution Control Board under the SwachBharat Abhiyaan initiative.

KOKONATOR Disposal Machine comes with an inbuilt Incinerator (Burner) with a Pad-to-Ash complete disposal process. KOKONATOR offers a faster, smoke and odour controlled mechanism for pad-disposal. This makes it a perfect and most convenient Pad-disposal system for any office, school, collage, university, mall, multiplex, or commercial establishments with seemingly smaller restroom space.

“When India speaks of becoming self-reliant, it doesn’t advocate a self-centered system. In India’s self-reliance; there is a concern for the whole world’s happiness, cooperation and peace.”
– Hon’ble PM, Shri Narendra Modi

On the same lines, we are also strengthening people through this initiative. A vending machine dispense 100 pads through Rs 5 coin for each (total collection – Rs. 500). Refilling the pads cost Rs. 3 per pad (total cost – Rs. 300). The onus is of housekeeping staff maintaining the washrooms to refill the machine which gives a benefit of Rs. 200 per refill.

Even post 75 years of Independence, we lack basic necessities such as availability of washrooms, sanitary napkins for women. We aim to connect resourceful people of India to fuel this initiative through CSR to empower Indian women to scale greater heights.
